Tele Radio’s wireless remote control ensures safety and efficiency in tandem crane operations

More safety, more control

Heavy load operations — especially those involving two overhead cranes working in tandem — demand maximum precision and safety. With this challenge in mind, Strong Machines, a Brazilian company specializing in overhead crane manufacturing, implemented Tele Radio’s advanced Tiger system

With the Tiger remote control system, a single operator can control two cranes — either individually or simultaneously — with complete safety, smooth operation, and ergonomic comfort.

In applications that require lifting large or extremely heavy materials, it’s common to use two or more cranes at once. When operating together, this mode is known as tandem mode. In such cases, both cranes are typically controlled by a single remote, which functions as the master transmitter, streamlining operation and giving the operator greater control.

The system allows the operator to select, at any time, which bridge or trolley to control. This can be done always from a strategic position with a better line of sight and at a safe distance.

Tandem mode: enhanced connectivity and safety

While not required in the US, continuous communication between cranes adds an extra layer of safety—especially in tandem operations. Tele Radio’s Crane-to-Crane (CTC) system enables this by using transceivers installed on each crane. This allowes receivers to communicate in real time. It’s a proven method in Europe, where it’s mandatory under strict safety standards, and it’s a smart addition for any operation that prioritizes coordination and risk prevention.

This uninterrupted communication significantly boosts safety by ensuring synchronized crane movements. For example, when one hoist reaches its first limit switch, the speed is reduced in sync with the others. If the second limit is triggered, the operation stops immediately. This ensures that cranes always operate in perfect coordination, preventing accidents and avoiding overloads.

Tele Radio’s Tiger CTC model, designed for tandem operations, fully complies with European standard EN15011:2011-05, which requires full intercommunication between crane movements in this type of application.

Fast installation and reliable local support

One of the key advantages highlighted by Strong Machines was the ease of installation. Without major modifications, the Tiger remote control system was quickly integrated into the original design.

One of the key advantages highlighted by Strong Machines was how easy the Tiger system was to install. It integrated seamlessly into their existing setup with minimal modifications.

This experience isn’t unique to Brazil. At Tele Radio, we support our customers worldwide through local subsidiaries that offer technical assistance, in-stock equipment, and tailored training. In the US, our team is ready to provide the same fast, reliable service—ensuring you get the most out of your system, every step of the way.
